SCALING Project - Sustainable Change Achieved Through Improved Nutrition and Governance Linking

 

1. Background 

 

The provinces of northern Laos remain particularly affected by malnutrition problems. Phongsaly province has the highest chronic malnutrition rates in the country. Thus, 51% of children <5 years are stunted and 35% underweight.

As part of the government's global nutrition strategy and a consortium program with 4 NGO partners led by Save the Children, in partnership with CARE and ChildFund, the SCALING project aims to improve the nutritional status of communities in Huapanh , Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang and Phongsaly Provinces. 

The CCL, a recognized player in the rural development of mountainous areas for more than 35 years, is responsible for the implementation of this program in Phongsaly province. The CCL is also responsible for the technical supervision / support of water and sanitation activities for the entire consortium.

 

2. Project Objectives

 

General Objective: To improve the food and nutrition security of rural households in Phongsaly Province.

 

Specific objective: improving the nutritional status of adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women and children under 5 in the 3 project districts (Phongsaly, Boun Neua and Nyot Ou).

 

 

 

R1 / Nutrition and hygiene behaviors as well as access to nutrition and reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health services are improved in the 3 districts

 

R2/ Amélioration des conditions de vie et atténuation des causes sous-jacentes de la malnutrition dans les 3 districts de Phongsaly

 

R3/ Strengthening civil society and local governance at the district, kumban and community levels

 

2. Beneficiaries and project location

 

The project is located in four provinces. CCL is responsible for the implementation of the project in Phongsaly Province and more precisely in 70 villages of the districts of Bouneua, Nyot Ou et Phongsaly. 

 

3. Duration of the project 

 

the project has started in December 2017 and will end in January 2021.
